NEW Cross got the season up and running with a 63-3 win over Plympton-Victoria.
The nine-tries-to-none margin – all of them converted by kicker Ryan Wotton – blew away any cobwebs.
It was also a winning start for new captain Harry Symes. Symes, who played for the team a few seasons ago, has returned this season to give it another go.
The scrum was dominant all afternoon, even earning New Cross a penalty try.
Plympton chose Louie Griffiths as man-of-the-match.
2After a year out with an horrific leg injury, it is like a new having a new player,” said coach Jerry Wotton.
“Brilliant to have his experience and quality back in the centre and he topped it off with a try from 60 yards.”
The only blemish came from Matt Pitcher on his final appearance for New Cross, when he gave away a penalty that allowed Plympton their only points of the afternoon.
“Best of luck to Matt and his family on their move to St Albans,” said coach Wotton.
