NEWTON Abbot Spurs’ league form has been hit and miss so far this season but the same cant be said for their progress in the FA Vase.

Matt Hayden’s side won 2-0 away at Bude Town in mid-August and with another victory on Saturday, September 12, they have booked their spot in the first round proper.

Spurs welcomed Sticker AFC to The Rec with the visitors sitting second in the Peninsula League’s Premier West at the time of writing, having won six of their league games.

The home side were flying the flag for the East though and took the lead courtesy of Harvey Field.

They were then pegged back by an Evan Tresidder penalty in the second half only for Jesse Howe to restore Spurs’ advantage.

Resolute defending saw the victory through and they’ve been rewarded with a trip to Wantage Town in the next round. Buckland Athletic and Bovey Tracey AFC are at home against Hamworthy Reaction and Brimscombe & Thrupp respectively with ties to be played on the Saturday, October 10.
