WHEN even the rugby fixtures are falling foul of the weather, you know the conditions must be treacherous.
Newton Abbot RFC 1st XV were scheduled to visit Barnstaple IIs, hoping to end their troubles on the road.
From early in the week though, it seemed unlikely that the game would go ahead and Barum confirmed the postponement on Friday, January 23.
The rearranged clash has been pencilled into the diaries for Saturday, February 7, but given that the All Whites are facing Cullompton RFC in the Devon Intermediate Cup the following day, this may well be subject to change.
Just one match in Newton’s league went ahead which saw Truro win 23-10 on the road at Plymstock Oaks.
Back at Rackerhayes meanwhile, Newton Abbot Spartans were awaiting Tiverton IIs with a first win of the season still eluding them, only for the rain to have the last laugh once again.
No games went ahead in the Counties Three Devon North & East Division.
Elsewhere, Teignmouth RFC 1st XV had no game scheduled whereas their men’s 2nd XV and ladies teams had their fixtures called off.
In truth, there was very little rugby action taking place anywhere in the county.
In Teignmouth men’s 1st XV’s division, the Regional Two South West, all of the games were rained off.
Exmouth RFC were able to get their home match played against Matson in Regional One South West and they enjoyed a comfortable 63-12 win.
Looking ahead now and while the weather continues to dominate, if there are any rugby fixtures to be played, here’s what to expect.
Teignmouth 1st XV face a trip to Wadebridge Camels to close out January but for Newton firsts and seconds as well as New Cross, there are no fixtures scheduled at the time of writing.
