The torrential rain at the weekend played havoc with the district's sporting programme, writes Richard Bray.

In football, only two WBW Solicitors' South Devon League sides saw any action – Babbacombe Corinthians winning 1-0 at Roselands in the Buddens Westinsure Devon Intermediate Cup area quarter-final, the game being played on the all-weather pitch at Paignton Community College.

All the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League fixtures were postponed.

On Sunday, there was just the one game played in the Pioneer Youth League – Bovey Tracey Lions' U14s beating Broadmeadow 9-0 on the Ashmoor astroturf, but no Devon County FA U18s' League matches were possible.

Buckfastleigh Ramblers' home Devon Two rugby match against Plympton-Victoria was called off, and there were no matches at all played in the Tribute Cornwall & Devon League, but Newton Abbot's home National League Three South West game did go ahead, the All Whites beating Barnstaple 17-10.

Horse racing also suffered, with Exeter's Sunday meeting being called off 24 hours earlier due to a waterlogged track, while the point-to-point meeting at Black Forest Lodge was postponed for a week – it is now scheduled for Sunday, with the first race at 1pm.
