A CHANCE to step back into the intrigue and glamour of the roaring twenties is coming to a heritage railway in South Devon.
From April 17, the South Devon Railway will launch a brand-new immersive murder mystery experience set aboard its historic trains.
Running on selected dates until July 17, the new 1920s-themed Murder Mystery Experience invites passengers to become part of a gripping whodunnit as the drama unfolds along the picturesque Dart Valley.
Created in partnership with Murder by Appointment, the longest-established murder mystery company in the West of England, the experience combines live theatre, interactive storytelling and the nostalgic charm of heritage rail travel.
Guests will find themselves at the centre of a carefully crafted mystery, with a cast of suspicious characters, hidden motives and unfolding clues.
As the journey progresses, passengers are encouraged to question the actors, follow the evidence and piece together the story to uncover the culprit.
Designed as a fully immersive evening experience, the event transforms a traditional train journey into a moving theatre set, with the atmosphere of the 1920s brought to life through character, setting and storytelling.
Whether seasoned puzzle-solvers or simply looking for a different kind of night out, visitors can engage as much or as little as they like; from quietly observing the drama to fully embracing their inner detective.
Guests are also invited to dress for the occasion, adding flapper glamour or sharp-suited style to the evening, although period costume is entirely optional.
Refreshments will be available on board, helping to complete the experience as the mystery unfolds against the backdrop of one of Devon’s most scenic railway routes.
Ernest Elsworth-Wilson, General Manager of South Devon Railway, said: ‘This is a fantastic way to experience the railway in a completely different light.
‘The 1920s setting works beautifully with our heritage carriages, and the interactive element makes it a really engaging evening for visitors.
‘It is something a little bit different, whether you’re coming with friends, as part of a group, or simply looking for a memorable night out’.
Blending live performance with the unique setting of a heritage railway, the experience offers a fresh way to enjoy one of the South West’s best-loved attractions — where every journey comes with a twist.
