NORMALLY the cliché headline is cat stuck up tree rescued by firefighters, but for a Teignmouth crew last week it was a feathered friend rather than a feline one that required assistance.

Firefighters from the town were called out on Thursday afternoon (March 4) to the grounds of Bitton House in response to an RSPCA request to assist in the rescue of a confused corvid that had got itself well and truly stuck in a tree.

The crew used their 13.5 metre high ladder and a reciprocating electric saw to cut the rook free from errant branches and handed him over to the safe hands of the RSPCA who checked him out.

On their social media page the station reminded members of the public that should they ever see any animals trapped or stuck they should first call the RSPCA who in turn will request fire and rescue services should they require additional assistance.
