FIRE crews from Buckfastleigh and Ashburton were scrambled to a road accident on the A38 yesterday.

The collision caused a ‘considerable’ tailback along the dual carriageway towards South Brent.

The driver of the vehicle had managed to get free of the wreckage and was being treated by paramedics when both fire crews arrived.

A spokesman for Buckfastleigh fire station said: ‘We concentrated on making the vehicle safe and removing debris from the carriageway.

‘We attended with our friends from Ashburton Fire Station and remained on scene for approximately one hour.’

Firefighters have expressed their thanks for the support they have received over the last year.
