TWO canoeists were rescued after getting lost in the Holne area of Dartmoor late last night.

The pair lost their bearings after quitting the River Dart when it got dark at about 6pm.

They were found safe and well five hours later by members of the Ashburton-based Dartmoor search and rescue group.

It emerged the duo lost contact with the rest of their party after leaving the water about two miles up from New Bridge.
