A WELL full of 18th-century beer bottles has been unearthed in Dawlish.

Property developer Andy Barton discovered them last week after demolishing what was the offices for Ace Cleaning, now being turned into two houses and six flats at High Street.

The site used to be to be the home of Dawlish Brewery, owned by R B Ferris, and the well would have been used to draw water to make the beer with. It is believed the bottles were dumped in the well when the brewery closed. The bottles are unique in the fact that their base is curved, therefore making it impossible to put them down.

AC Archaeology was contacted and representatives recorded what was found before the bottles were removed and work continued.
