BRIAN FERNS, of Dawlish, writes: I was very surprised to read that Cllr Cox, who professes to be a practising Christian, replied that 'there could be non-Christian prayers and a devil worshipper could lead councillors in prayer'. As a practising Christian myself, the last thing I would want from Teignbridge Council meetings would be a devil worshipper saying prayers on behalf of the council which represents the people in the Teignbridge area – thank you, but no thank you. Does Cllr Cox know just what he is saying here? For those who believe in the devil, myself included, this would be inviting serious problems into the meetings plus the area. If the council feels that to accept prayers or contemplation from just any sect, then the best thing for them to do would be to drop the idea of prayer off the meetings altogether. I would ask one question here: where is the sincerity and feeling in all this from you councillors?
