MORE than 240 people took up Dawlish Water Rotary Club's invitation to have blood pressure checks during a Community Fair on the Lawn, Dawlish.

The club's Stroke Awareness Day – organised by Rotarian Alan Wright – received support from the Starcross GP practice nurses as well as Dr Toh Wong, his registrar and the Lloydspharmacy practice, who all gave their time to test people.

A rotary club spokesman said: 'The day was a great success with 240-plus blood pressures taken over about three and a half hours – around 68 per hour.

'At one time there were five people at a time taking blood pressures.

'About ten per cent of the total tested had high blood pressure and some of these were younger people. They were referred to their local GP.'
