PEOPLE born on a Newton Abbot estate can expect to die 14 years earlier than those in other parts of the district, a report has suggested.

The life expectancy in Buckland is 76.1 years, but the figure rises to 90.2 for people in Kenn and Kennford and relates to the level of local deprivation.

The difference has been described as 'shocking'.

The statistics are in the Locality Public Health Plan adopted by Teignbridge Council on Tuesday.

Under new rules the authority has a duty towards improving the health of the population and has received a two-year £20,000 grant from Devon County Council.
