BOVEY Tracey children’s book creators Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre have been announced as ambassadors for this year’s national Bookshop Day.
The Booksellers Association has unveiled plans for the 2026 event which takes place in October.
Bookshop Day is a flagship celebration in Books Are My Bag's year-round campaign, championing the unique role bookshops of all shapes and sizes play at the heart of communities and culture.
It celebrates the expertise, passion and vibrancy that make bookshops irreplaceable.
Philip and Sarah, whose Adventuremice series showcases the perfect partnership between Reeve's storytelling and McIntyre's vibrant illustrations, delight readers of all ages.
They said: ‘We're thrilled to be Bookshop Day Ambassadors.
‘We've both seen how bookshops can light up a community, creating an exciting hub for people to meet writers and illustrators, and connect with other people who love books.
‘We love how booksellers reach out to children and families with their exciting displays and cosy storytime and drawing events.’
More than places to buy books, bookshops champion reading for pleasure, inspire new and lifelong readers, support schools and host events with both emerging local talent and household literary names.
They are cultural heartlands and trusted businesses that enrich villages, towns and cities across the UK.
Exclusive artwork has become one of the defining features of Bookshop Day.
This year's sought-after Books Are My Bag limited-edition tote has been designed by acclaimed illustrator, author and textile designer Jane Foster, from Kingsbridge, whose bold, mid-century-inspired style has delighted readers and design lovers for more than a decade.
Emma Bradshaw, Head of Campaigns at The Booksellers Association, said: ‘Bookshop Day is a celebration of bookshops in every shape and size, and of the passionate booksellers who make them such an important part of communities across the UK .
‘Their knowledge, enthusiasm and ability to connect readers with books they'll love is something that simply can't be replicated.
‘This year's campaign brings together an exceptional group of authors, artists and illustrators.
‘From our exclusive Limited-Edition Bag and campaign artwork to spectacular city murals, every element has been designed to celebrate bookshops and inspire readers to visit, browse and support their local bookseller on Bookshop Day this October.’
