A MAN from Teignmouth remains in custody after being charged with murdering another in the resort’s Barnpark Terrace.

David Ablett, 52, of Barnpark Terrace, is accused of killing 38-year-old Matthew Jackson from Bishopsteignton.

His first appearance in court was before Plymouth magistrates last week when he was remanded in custody pending a bail application being heard at the city’s crown court on Friday morning.

His next appearance after that will be at Exeter Crown Court on July 5.

Altogether three men, all from Teignmouth, were arrested as part of the murder inquiry launched on June 3 after Mr Jackson’s body was discovered outside a block of flats in Barnpark Terrace.

Police were called to the scene just before 8am after the body was found in front of a car opposite the flats.

Local residents spoke of their shock at the tragedy on their doorstep.

Mr Ablett was subsequently arrested together with a 51-year-old man and a 39-year-old, both of whom were later released pending further inquiries.

Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the death to contact them via [email protected] or by phone on 101, quoting log number 267 of June 3.
