‘Shrek Jr The Musical’ was performed to sellout audiences by the Newton Abbot & District Musical Comedy Society (NADMCS) youth section, NEWTS, at The Alexandra Theatre.

The tickets sold out within just one week of going on sale.

NEWTS offers performing arts workshops for young people, aged between eight to 17 and has been running for more than 25 years.

It has become so popular within the community, that there is now a list of children waiting patiently to join.

NEWTS has been awarded some National Operatic & Dramatic Association (NODA) regional awards in past years and is excited to announce they have just been nominated for three more awards for last year’s production of Matilda Jr, ‘Best Youth Production’, ‘Youth Award – Company Characterisation’ and ‘Youth Award – Company Singing’.

They will be attending a NODA award ceremony at the end of the month to find out if they have been successful in winning.

NEWTS leader Claire said: ‘I have loved directing this year’s production of ‘Shrek Jr The Musical’, the cast have all worked incredibly hard, they are all super talented and have been a pleasure to work with.

‘Shrek Jr The Musical’ is a real ‘feel good’ show, a story that celebrates differences and reminds us that within ourselves is where true beauty is found’.

‘As many are aware there is still some uncertainty surrounding the future of The Alexandra Theatre. NADMCS at this time have been unable to book any future shows at The Alexandra Theatre, but hope that Shrek Jr won’t be the last show at The Alexandra Theatre.’
