CARGO boats using Teignmouth docks will have to pay more to cover the rising cost of keeping the main navigation channel open.
The port has been hit by a double whammy – income is down because of the recession but the battering by winter storms has played havoc with the shifting sands at the entrance, meaning more dredging.
It has landed the Harbour Commission with higher bills, which it says can no longer be subsidised from reserves.
