Thanks to generous donations and numerous fundraisers, Bovey Tracey and district Macmillan Cancer Support group has raised £17,000 this year.

'We've managed to raise the same amount as in 2009, people are extremely generous,' said Kelly Hayman-Bruce, who is instrumental in collecting funds for the charity.

'Although money is tight, residents are still willing to give.'

She added the majority of the money was raised thanks to hosting an auction of promises, summer fete, a collection at Trago Mills and a New Year's Eve ball.

The committee will be holding another ball at the Dolphin Hotel, Bovey Tracey, this New Year's Eve.

'Next year is Macmillan's 100th anniversary, so there will be a huge amount of fundraising,' said Kelly.
