WHEN the NHS Primary Care Trusts' commissioning of services are abolished, GPs will take on that responsibility at community hospitals.But the proposals in the government's recent consultant white paper on health is a step towards privatisation, claims former Teignbridge Liberal Democrat MP Richard Younger-Ross.Today the Lib Dems launch campaigns in Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Dawlish to ask people to write to the secretary of state for health, Andrew Lansley, to ensure that community hospitals remain firmly a part of the NHS.Mr Younger-Ross is working with councillors in the three towns to run the campaigns.'It is very unclear what the doctors are going to do with the hospital buildings if they take them over.'It is quite likely in some areas that doctors will bring in contractors to run the hospitals for them. That, in effect, is privatisation of community hospitals,' said Mr Younger-Ross.
