A NEW mini allotment has been established in Dawlish town centre.

The Strand Centre has created a web patch in a space in front of the church building to repurpose as a growing area.

The allotment space was the brainchild of centre manager Paul Lentle.

He said: ‘It’s a bit late in the season but we thought it was worth having a go.

‘Anyone can come and help themselves.’

The vegetables are being grown in containers outside the entrance to the building in The Strand.

Planters contain a wide variety of crops including runner beans, strawberries, courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, turnips, chard and carrots.

There is also an apple tree being grown in a pot alongside.

Some of the crops are already bearing fruit.

The apple tree is starting to produce apples while the strawberry plants just need a few days of sun.
