Changing a unit at a Dawlish gym site to a paella takeaway and lifting the age restriction on new homes – among this week’s planning applications
Permission for the change of use to hot food takeaway (Use Class E) has been made by Paella Delivered at a unit on the site of the Pride Fitness gym, at Shutterton Bridge, Exeter Road, Dawlish.
As part of their application they say: ‘We will be creating our paellas for distribution only. Delivering hot and cold food to various sites in the locality. We have been operating for the last eight years and have a 5 star rating with Teignbridge.
‘We are used to catering for 20 to 25 at weddings every summer throughout the South West, so you can appreciate that we do not make noise when creating our hot food. Silence is paramount at weddings!
‘We will have 1 employee, plus myself and my wife working at the unit. Our delivery driver will then arrive and take away our food for delivery.
‘We currently supply many vulnerable people with hot meals as well as many other regulars too, but we pride ourselves on ensuring that people can order their parents/grand-parents a hot meal if they do not live nearby, especially if their parents/grand-parents are self-isolating! We therefore hope that you are able to view this application as soon as you can so that if approved, we can start to increase our footprint locally, build up our own business and help the many that we have helped previously.’
Owners of the Pride Fitness Gym assured their members they are ready to open as soon as lockdown rules permit and they continue to provide online courses.
Developers of land at Shell Cove House, Dawlish, have applied for the lifting of the condition restricting the age of people living in the homes to be built there.
PegasusLife, a developer specialising in ‘later living accommodation’, had originally applied to demolish the house and cottages on Old Teignmouth Road. They planned to redevelop them into 11 cottages and 17 apartments for ‘later living’, with a separate summerhouse building, integrated landscaping, access and parking and associated services.
PegasusLife marketed the site for this type of ‘later living accommodation’ – for people over 55 – and concluded there was not sufficient interest to carry on with the development.
PegasusLife sold the site. Savills was the acting agent. Poppy Developments, the new landowner, is an award winning local developer which builds housing for the open market. They have applied to Teignbridge Council to remove condition 6 (the age restriction) on the planning permission for the site.
An application to demolish a fire damaged bungalow at 6 Newton Road, Kingskerswell, and to build two detached dwellings has also gone in.
These are among the latest planning applications submitted across Teignbridge.
Every week dozens of planning applications are submitted to the local councils, and the coronavirus pandemic has not changed that.
Here is the list of applications that have been submitted and validated by the various local councils or planning authorities in the last week.
