PLANS to mark the Coronation of King Charles III in Dawlish are gearing up.

The town council is working on a series of events to celebrate the historic occasion.

Three days of celebrations are planned for the town on the Lawn from Saturday May 6.

At the same time, other events will be taking place around the parish.

Many local organisations and groups in the area are planning their own events to join the celebrations.

Planned so far are a Coronation clay modelling competition and a Dawlish Celebrates Coronation bake-off.

Also planned are rides, marquees, refreshments and entertainment on the Lawn each day.

On Coronation Day itself, Saturday March 6, the event will be shown live on a large screen on the Lawn with a family film shown that evening.

On Sunday May 7, from 11am, events will continue on the Lawn with the Big Coronation Lunch.

There will be a parade, musical groups performing, a talk on Coronation memorabilia and a quiz by the Friends of Dawlish Library in the evening.

Anyone can take along a picnic and join in.

On Monday May 8, it will be the Big Help Out with a fair on the Lawn.

Dawlish College will be doing two special bandstand performances with other entertainment throughout the day.

The fair will be a chance for people to find out more about the organisations and groups in Dawlish and the community and how to get involved and volunteer.

There will few more than 25 organisations attending.
