POLICE are seeking witnesses and information after a serious collision on the M5 near Exeter involving a BMW and a Mercedes.

Officers were called at 7.30am on Sunday, January 25, to a collision between Junction 28 and 29.

A silver BMW had collided with the central reservation.

The driver, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries which are being treated as potentially life-threatening; he remains in hospital.

The passenger sustained minor injuries.

A second car, a silver Mercedes, collided with the central reservation behind due to debris on the road; the driver sustained minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Anyone with any relevant information and dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked contact police via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 0162 of the 25 January 2026’.
