A Dawlish publican has been revealed as the mystery donor who gave pressure group DARE £1,000 last week.
He is Andy Cross, of the Brunswick Arms, who decided that Dawlish Against Ruining Everything was a well-organised group which needed as many funds as possible.
Housing proposals for the town could change the face of it for ever, and there are plans for a supermarket in the Bartons car park with 'disastrous' parking and traffic implications for Dawlish.
Mr Cross said: 'It is about time local people were listened to and attention paid to what they have said.'
Cllr Clive Samuel said: 'As a town councillor I must represent the views of everyone, but I do applaud Andy Cross of the brunswick Arms for this gesture to DARE.' Cllr samuel said Mr cross had invested a lot into the town and was passionate about preserving and enhancing its unique features.
Cllr John Clatworthy said: 'I am extremely pleased to hear DARE has received £1,000 because they are part of the democratic process.'
