A BANNED driver from Buckfastleigh has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Cameron Gill (aliases Cameron Sandhu), aged 47, of Plymouth Road, pleaded guilty to driving a Skoda Octavia while disqualified on the A384 at Dartington.

South and West Devon Magistrates' Court sentenced him to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

The court said: ‘Reason: Offence so serious. Reason for custody: Relevant previous Convictions and poor standard of driving.’

Gill was also banned for 16 months and fined £80.

Gill also pleaded guilty to driving while the amount of the drug Methylene dioxymethamphetamine in his blood at 326 microgrammes per litre of blood, exceeded the limit. He was banned from driving for 60 months. He was also fined £81 and ordered to pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecuting Service and £154 to fund victim services.

No separate penalty was imposed for Gill driving without insurance but his licence was endorsed.
