Volunteers from Dartmoor Search and Rescue’s Ashburton Team joined forces with the Devon Cave Rescue Organisation to practice rescuing a fallen climber on Wednesday (June 4).

The joint exercise on Chudleigh Rocks was a chance for volunteers from both organisations to experience how different rescue techniques can be used in different environments.

Faced with the scenario of a fallen climber perched on the south face of Chudleigh Rocks, the teams rigged safe access to the casualty, packaged them for transport, and used a range of technical rope systems to safely navigate them down to the ground and up the steep slopes out to the roadhead.

Devon Cave Rescue Organisation and Dartmoor Search and Rescue said they were grateful for the patience of the climbers and boulderers using the rocks while they were training.
