LAST week the headlines were, ‘Planet Earth Emergency.’ What triggered this was a long list of environmental events. On 24 Dec 22, I wrote about the earth fighting back and watch out for more bad weather.
Since then, California has terrible floods, and many dead. Now it’s our turn. The UK is experiencing flooding and at the same time has been warmer than average. In fact the UK had for the first time ever, an average temperature last year just over 10 degrees centigrade.
It was also the hottest ever summer hitting 40 C. Europe also had their hottest summers ever. In fact, Europe is warming up the fastest rate since records began. Although no solid reasons have been given, I do have some ideas why.
As stated by companies like the Met office, Europe is a big landmass, and this means a build-up of heat. It also states that Europe has near connections to the North pole, like northern Russia. And as the North pole is warming up at twice the rate than it has been in the past, there is now less cold air coming from the pole and therefore, less cooling effect for Europe as in the past.
The reason why the North pole is warming so fast as compared to the South pole, is not normally commented on as no one is quite sure, or I have missed it. As I have studied astronomy in the past, and still keep an eye on it – for the first time of reading anywhere, I would like to give a possible reason for why this effect may be happening. In the Northern hemisphere winter-time, the Planet Earth is on average about 3.1 to 3.4 million miles nearer to the Sun in January than in July.
This is due to the Earth not going around the Sun in a complete even circle, but an elliptical circle. Although many commentators in academic books and on-line encyclopaedias have in the past dismiss this difference, it can make up to an extra 6% more energy hitting the Northern hemisphere in January.
This is classified as a mitigated northern winter and summer. But what this means with our climate warming up, is the back-ground temperature is now higher than it was 100 years ago, and that is a higher starting point at the poles plus the extra 6% more energy in the winter, this may be making enough difference to melt more ice in both summer and winter, plus more darker surface areas with no ice.
Sorry about the long scientific explanation, but it’s important to know, or we will be at the mercy of the deniers. If my theory is correct, than we can expect a faster sea level rise than first thought, and a hotter Europe than expected just a few years ago. We often pat ourselves on the back, as the UK only emits about 1% of the world’s Co2.
But we now export much of that to China, South Korea and Japan, as they manufacture our products, instead of us; this is not included in our figures. (Could be called cooking the books) If we added in this and the shipping, our Co2 figures may be more than double. Want to help? Try to buy British, and repair products and not throw them away.
