Westlands is a residential home in Teignmouth with an excellent reputation. It provides high quality 24 hour care in a beautiful homely environment with stunning views over the River Teign.

As an independent home it has been able to attract and retain high quality staff, providing a continuity of care that can be hard to find. Focusing on person centred care, staff get to know the residents, their stories, favourite pastimes and activities. Many members of staff have worked at the home for a number or years.

The Westlands owner Nigel Mallinson, is very involved in the day to day running of home. Together with the Manager Alison Govier, they make a strong management team enjoying good relationships with residents as well as families and friends.

Westlands provides a very high standard of accommodation, comprising of 24 rooms, all with ensuite bathroom facilities. A team of three cooks prepare high quality home cooked food. All meals and dietary requirements are catered for and served in the dining room or individually in bedrooms. Residents enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment from crossword groups, arts and crafts, discussion groups and singing. Regular outings are one of the most popular activities.

Most residents come to Westlands through recommendations from friends or family who have had personal experience of the home. Moving into residential care can be a little daunting for some residents. Some chose to move in for trial periods before deciding to move in more permanently.

Home Instead Launches “Wishing Well” Initiative to Make Dreams Come True for Local Clients

Home Instead
(Home Instead)

Home Instead West Exeter & Teignbridge and Home Instead South Devon have launched a heartwarming new initiative designed to bring joy, connection, and meaningful experiences to older adults across the community.

The new concept, called the “Wishing Well,” invites clients, with the support of their Care Professionals, to write down one wish they have always wanted to fulfil. Each month, one wish will be drawn from the well at the offices, with the team then working together to make that dream a reality.

The initiative has already helped create special memories for one local client whose lifelong dream was to ride his motorbike along the famous Route 66 on his 66th birthday. Following a serious accident a year before the milestone birthday, he was sadly no longer able to ride or drive.

Wanting to help make his dream possible in a different way, his Home Instead Care Professional wanted to make this possible. Together, the team arranged a virtual reality headset experience which allowed him to travel along Route 66 from the comfort of his own home on his birthday. The experience gave him the opportunity to enjoy the iconic journey he had always hoped to complete, creating a memorable moment for both him and the care team supporting him.

The Wishing Well initiative reflects Home Instead’s commitment to delivering care that goes beyond practical support, focusing on emotional wellbeing, independence, companionship, and creating moments that truly matter.

Marian Catana, Owner of Home Instead West Exeter & Teignbridge and Home Instead South Devon, said: “We believe ageing should be filled with purpose, joy, and meaningful experiences. Through initiatives like the Wishing Well, we are helping make our community a better place to age while creating lasting memories for the people we care for and their families. The smallest moments make the biggest difference.”

Home Instead West Exeter & Teignbridge provides personalised home care services across Exeter, Dawlish, Teignbridge and surrounding areas. Home Instead South Devon supports clients across Torbay, Brixham, Dartmouth and more in South Devon.
