CLUB members turned out in force on a gorgeous sunny day to welcome a good number of visitors who came to try their hand at bowling.

Everyone was offered tuition and, although some were more successful than others, there were smiles all round at the end of each session – plus a very welcome cup of tea!

A special guest was welcomed in particular – Chris Locke, pictured, who is a member of the Falkland Islands’ Bowling Team for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham/Royal Leamington Spa (July 28 to August 8).

Chris is staying with friends in Ilsington village while taking up training opportunities at Plympton and is part of the five-strong squad selected from about 20 bowlers from a Falkland population of 3,100.

Chris found the Ilsington facilities quite luxurious – one of the most beautiful locations in Devon for bowling and an all-weather carpet.

At home Chris has to roll out the carpet in the longest school corridor available, stick it down and then start playing – all after school hours, of course! All credit to the team for making the effort to come over and take part in the Games.

As the visitors drifted away club members got down to the serious business of a BBQ, relaxing in the sunshine and enjoying good company and stunning surroundings.
