NEWTON Abbot Bowls Club’s husband and wife duo Dave and Catherine Pickett (pictured) were delighted to be invited to play for Bowls England in Cornwall.

Whilst not an international game, they took great pride in wearing an England shirt for the first time at Wadebridge BC.

They were both on winning rinks although they lost the game overall but Wadebridge were perfect hosts, from the food to the hospitalities. The pasties were a real highlight!

Newton have endured mixed fortunes in county competitions with the ladies losing by a single shot at Tiverton West End and the men suffering a 3-2 defeat against Starcross, but there was a National Two Fours win for the men over Torquay.

Catherine enjoyed a Section Five 2-wood singles win over Mandy Lynch, 14-11, as well as an over 55 pairs victory with Eilleen Coombes, beating Chris Towle and Kath Callard 24-8.

Meanwhile, the club welcomed Northampton Old Boys in a tourist match and will host Swindon’s Rodbourne Cheney next.
