NEWTON Abbot Bowls Club member Dave Pickett recently played for Bowls England in a centenary match at Madeira.
Whilst not an international, it was still a thrill for him to pull on an England shirt and his team came out on top.
Dave also played for Devon too, taking on Cornwall at South Molton and once more, he was on the winning side.
A quick correction, to last week’s score, the ladies beat Brixham Furzeham Away 6-4 not 8-2, but still a good result all the same.
The men's B-team again beat the C-team in the MDL but only by five shots and both teams can now look forward to the rest of the season, not having to play each other again.
Other games are coming thick and fast, the men losing at home in the national two fours to a very strong Shaldon side consisting entirely of Middleton Cup and international players.
In the Tony Allcock Trophy, two mixed rinks from Newton Abbot (four ladies and four men) went to Bitton Park, losing on one rink but winning the game overall by nine shots on a cold and rainy evening.
Looking forward now and at the time of writing anyway, the men have a home clash against Starcross in the County Top Club to look forward to.
