A BUSY stretch of action for Kingsteignton Bowling Club began on May 16, with an SDLBL match for the ladies against Marina BC.

Unfortunately owing to circumstances such as sickness and holiday time KBC could only raise two rinks of players instead of the scheduled three, the third being forfeited.

42-31 to KBC (5-5 pts). Margaret Sole 17, S Cheshire 17; Sue Hancock 25, C Takel 14.

This match was played on a lovely day of sunshine, although overshadowed slightly by reduced numbers from the KBC ladies. KBC captain Margaret Sole said that it was a convincing win on the Hancock/Takel rink but circumstances dictated that they could on share the points overall.

Next up on May 19, it was another SDLBL outing with KBC welcoming Abbrook Park (as pictured) and winning 87-36 (10-0 pts).

Jackie Carr 36, L Rollason 8; Margaret Sole 22, P Loft 14; Sue Hancock 29, S Wheeler 14.

The weather was conducive for a good afternoon of bowling and the Kingsteignton ladies welcomed some old friends, owing to both clubs being fairly adjacent to each other. Margaret said that overall, it was a lovely match, friendly, as always, and everyone enjoyed the day.

On May 21, Kingsteignton B.C. then had the pleasure of entertaining two clubs from the Over 55's competition. First up, in the X division, they played against Dawlish Marina and prevailed 43-30 (8-0 pts). Ian Westaway 24, J Turner 17; John Saunders 19, J Acres 13.

This was a match that could have gone either way in the end as Marina appeared to 'find' the pace and bias (green) required on KBC's all-weather surface fairly quickly.

After a strong start from Marina on the Westaway/Turner rink, KBC fired back to overhaul the opposition. The Saunders/Acres rink was rather more straightforward with KBC just having the edge all the way.

Next up is the KBC Y division tea, who had the pleasure of Bovey Tracey bowlers. 62-12 to KBC (8-0 pts). Bill Beech 24, P Cridge 8; Martin Redfern 38, K Breame 4.

KBC skipper Bill Beech said post-match that Martin Redfern and his team played 'An absolute blinder, totally dominating the unfortunate Bovey lads.' Skipper Bill also said on his rink (Beech/Cridge), that his team played well with great shots from both sets of players.

Overall, the games were played in a jovial and friendly manner with the final results being almost irrelevant to the pleasure both teams gained from the meeting.

Finally, to May 22 and on another fine day, KBC welcomed players from Torquay Kings for a Riviera Mixed Triples match, a tournament in its inaugural campaign. 80-30 to KBC (10-0 pts). Margaret Sole 28, J Porter 9; Jackie Carr 29, A Drayton 10; John Saunders 23, A Yeo 11.

This first match of the RMTL went the way of Kingsteignton with home advantage helping them to an opening victory.

Two of the three rinks were straightforward wins, with KBC taking early leads and then maintaining them. Men's captain John Saunders said things weren't so straightforward on his rink, though, they were 8-9 down but as the expression goes, ‘It all changes after tea’ with KBC limiting Kings to only two more shots after the break.

Across the board, it was an enjoyable few days of bowls, all played out in a very friendly manner.
