LUSTLEIGH Cricket Club rounded out a strong season with victory on Dartmoor Bails 20/20 finals day.

A warm and sunny day greeted the players at Chagford with the hosts putting Lustleigh into field first.

The opening pair of Dave Saxton and Alex Spring opened the bowling attack, Saxton threatening with his usual pace and Spring claiming a wicket in his first over, caught by captain Matt Pearce.

Saxton continued to probe at the other end and was rewarded with the other Chagford opener who edged behind for 16.

Spring also was in the wickets again, Harry Mount on loan from Bovey Tracey hit a towering ball that John Wright charged in to catch deep on the leg side boundary.

Harry Senior for Chagford was one of the only Chagford batters to reach 25, he managed to score freely, retiring on 25 before returning later on.

Duncan Chapman then bowled his typically tight, accurate and quick spell and was very unlucky to see his four overs for 18 runs go wicketless. However, at the other end, Ollie Poustie continued his wicket-taking form, taking three.

Ollie Blakeman concluded with a double wicket maiden, accompanied by Mike Wright who bowled the returning Senior, leaving Chagford at 96 all out from 16.3 overs.

Lustleigh scored quickly and confidently in reply with Harry Bannister and Paddy Poustie taking on the Chagford bowlers.

Bannister was bowled by the pacy Harry Mount for 19 after some excellent striking. John Wright, Lustleigh’s highest average batter in the league this season, arrived at the crease and, after a few sighters, he started with a couple of boundaries before unleashing his typical six-hitting, retiring on 30.

Tom Taylor then quickly blasted a few more boundaries before being caught on the rope. Paddy Poustie batted through the innings and hit the winning runs alongside Ollie Blakeman from 13.3 overs- victory by eight wickets!

It’s been a great season for the team, supported by a squad of 15-20 players who have played regularly in the league. One final reward for the season went to Alex Spring who took the award for most wickets in the league- with 15 wickets taken.

Thanks go to George Perry, who organises the league, and Chagford, who were great hosts for the day.
