Newton Abbot 2, Dawlish Ladies 1

Dawlish Ladies’ first Petroc One league match of the new year saw plenty of quick passing, good runs and many shots on goal.

The first half was evenly matched, and great defending by both teams meant half-time came with the scoreline blank.

Sam Beavis gave Newton Abbot the lead soon after the restart.

At the other end, Dawlish continued to create chances, with Lucy Acheson, in her first league match, prominent in many of her side’s attacks.

However, it was the hosts who scored again to lead 2-0.

Dawlish’s heads did not drop, and their efforts were rewarded when a move involving Jess Green, Helen Rainbird and Billie Gillett ended with Martha Boxall tapping the ball through the keeper’s feet for a cracking team goal.
