PREMIER DIVISION

NEWTON Abbot Spurs 2nd XI put in a five-star performance as they dispatched East Allington United on Saturday, October 3, reports Alastair Muirden.

Lewis Breslan and Joel Patchett’s side impressed at both ends of the field in their second success of the season.

Aiden Blackie, Tate Breslan-Aggrey, Harry Ford, Luis Green and Kye Drinkwater scored the Spurs goals and Taylor Breslan kept a clean sheet in between the sticks.

Elsewhere in the SDFL’s Premier Division, Lakeside Athletic sent a catch us if you can message when they beat Paignton Saints at Coach Road to move eight points clear at the summit.

In fact, the rest of the division is offering some competitive football with only four points separating the team third from bottom and the team in second place.

Ilsington Villa seem to be less predictable at Lewthorne Cross these days and a 2-2 draw with Kingsteignton Athletic keeps the teams apart by a single point. Gavin Lake and Matt Warman were on target for the Moorlanders.

Plymouth True Blues found their mojo in inflicting a painful 4–2 defeat for Newton Abbot 66 who have not won a league game since the opening day of the season whilst the game between the bottom two went the way of the visitors.

Chudleigh Athletic picked up their first win with a 3–1 result at Totnes and Dartington who are now the only team in the top division without a point. Jack Wills, George Davidson and Jake Cogavin won the points for the clarets.

DIVISION ONE

Paignton Villa are the new leaders in Division One thanks to a 5-1 win over Babbacombe Corries as Mount Gould were without a game whilst Buckland Athletic 2nds continue to keep pace, beating Buckfastleigh Rangers 3-1.

Bucky are one of three teams to have played and not taken a point to date, along with the Corries and Brixham Town.

Bovey Tracey had a good afternoon, just edging a 2-1 result at Watcombe Wanderers, Billy Robbins scoring both goals.

DIVISION TWO

In Division Two, Galmpton Utd not only stay top but remain three points clear with a very close 1-nil win at Tavistock AFC 2nds.

Kingskerswell remain second courtesy of super-sub Oscar Mills who scored both of their goals in a win over Ashburton plus Newton Spurs 3rds struck six against Paignton Villa 2nds.

Elsewhere, Ivybridge Town 2nds struck seven against East Allington 2nds and the spoils were shared between True Blues and Liverton.

DIVISION THREE

Newton Abbot 66 2nds continue to lead the way in Division Three, a comprehensive 6 – 1 win at Kingsteignton Athletic 2nds keeping their 100% record intact and they’re the only team not to lose after only three games.

That scoreline was matched as Horrabridge Rangers dispatched Ipplepen Athletic 2nds with Stoke Gabriel TP 2nds edging out Chudleigh 2nds in a nine-goal thriller and Newton Rovers enjoying a fine 4-nil win over Buckfastleigh 2nds.

DIVISION FOUR

Barton Athletic stay top of Division Four thanks to a 3-nil home win against Brixham Town 2nds.

Signal Box stay right behind them with a tight 1-nil win at Waldon Athletic and Buckland 3rds continue their promising start to the season with a 5-nil win at Paignton Villa 3rds.

Bere Alston Utd 2nds and Ilsington Villa 2nds shared the points in a nil-nil draw and it was the second draw in a week for both of these teams who sit in mid-table at the moment.

DIVISION FIVE

In Division Five, Tamerton Foliot would appear to be punching below their weight and they remain five from five. This week they beat Newton Albion 7–3 in what was an entertaining game for the supporters.

Kingsbridge and Kellaton Utd got their first league win of the season with a 4-nil home win against Newton Rovers 2nds and Tavistock 3rds leapfrog Newton Albion into third place with a 5 –1 victory versus Waldon Athletic 2nds.

Unfortunately, the clash between WBB 2nds and Paignton Saints 3rds had to be abandoned due to a serious injury and will probably have to be paid.

Get well soon to 16-year-old Charlie Prout who broke his leg in a fair challenge. The game was only nine minutes old when the referee was forced to abandon the fixture due to the distress of team mates and supporters, All of the SDFL football family send their best wishes to Charlie and hope for a quick recovery.

Fortunately the game had an experienced referee who was able to deal with the situation and the process that follows. This was unlike 9 other games that were played in the SDFL without an official referee.

The league are eternally grateful to the volunteers that step forward to take charge of a fixture and do their best in sometimes difficult circumstances, As for the referee shortage, that is a different and longer discussion that needs addressing from above.

PREVIEWS

There are just three league fixtures going ahead on Saturday, October 10, due to county cup action taking over.

In the top-flight, Plymouth True Blues host Kingsteignton Athletic at Millbay Park whilst WBB 2nds take on Newton Rovers 2nds and Tavistock 3rds meet Kingsbridge & Kellaton, both in Div5.

There are some noteworthy fixtures in the county cups with SDFL champions Lakeside Athletic taking on Ottery St Mary in the east and Ilsington Villa welcoming Crediton 2nds in the Premier Cup.

In the Senior Cup, Ashburton must have the longest trip of the day, A nice day out for the lads at Lynton and Plymouth True Blues follow close behind in the mileage stakes with a trip north to Woolsery where neither of the SDFL teams will be home in time for Strictly.

Kingskerswell host Axminster 2nds and at the opposite end of the mileage stakes, Watcombe Wanderers play Babbacombe Corries who both share the same pitch.

There are also some eyewatering journeys in the Intermediate Cup. Fortune favoured the SDFL teams in the draw when Paignton Villa 2nds came out of the hat first followed by Ilfracombe Town 2nds and the same could be said for Tamerton Foliot and Windmill who face Otterton and Holsworthy 3rds respectively. All of these cup games have a 2pm KO.
