STOVER Golf Club reigned victorious over the 2026 Torbay Cup, South Devon’s esteemed answer to the Ryder Cup.

In a field of six, alongside Churston, Dainton Park, Teignmouth, Torquay and host club The Warren, Stover produced the goods on the second day to claim the crown.

It was Teignmouth and The Warren who led at the halfway stage, tied on 35 points apiece following the foursomes and four-ball-better-ball action on Saturday, August 15.

At that point, Stover were third on 29.5 points, followed by Dainton (24.5), Torquay (24) and Churston (20).

Golfers will know that the Warren is such a difficult course to battle with even in the perfect conditions so when you take into consideration the ongoing drought, the players were really up against it.

For day two, it was time for the singles with eight groups in play. The winner of each group would claim six points for their club, second gets five and so on.

48 points was the maximum amount a club could win in the singles and it was some going from Stover to end up with 41.

Host club The Warren were their closest challengers on 32, just a half point ahead of Torquay, then came Teignmouth (23), Churston (22) and Dainton Park (18.5).

Some of those individual scores on the Sunday demonstrated just how hard it was to grapple with what The Warren had to offer.

Whilst the higher scores were perhaps unsurprising, one ridiculously low score certainly caught the eye.

Archie Christophers of Stover is no stranger to silverware and his round of -5 spearheaded the charge to the crown, breaking The Warren’s course record in the process.

Their final score of 70.5 had them ahead of the home team and earned them bragging rights in the Torbay Cup.
