NEWTON Abbot still have work to do to get steer clear of relegation danger in Western Counties West after going down 44-27 at Truro.
Defeat leaves the All Whites (39pts) hovering one place and two points clear of the bottom three with two games remaining to stay ahead of Plymstock Oaks (37). Penryn (30) and Saltash (30) are unlikely to get out of the bottom two now.
So the pressure is on to conjure-up a result against visiting Paignton this Saturday, which is going to be a task on its own. The second-placed Cherries are second in the table and fresh from beating long-time leaders Wiveliscombe.
Newton Abbot trailed from the second minute onwards against Truro and were 27-12 down by half time.
The second half started promisingly for the All Whites, who added two more tries on the way back to a 27-22 deficit. That was as good as it got for Newton, who were undone by two more tries.
Newton Abbot’s try scorers at St Clement’s Hill were Jed Griffin (2), Charlie Dore, Jake Monnington and Ben Rockey. Ben Lang kicked a conversion.
