Newton Abbot All Whites did all they possibly could to keep their hopes alive of another season in National Three South & West.

A dominant first half – with a near point-a-minute strike rate – ensured a five-point haul with the bonus point try banked as early as the 19th minute.

Already relegated Chippenham staged a mini fightback midway through the second half. However, 14 points in five minutes barely dented Newton’s advantage, especially as the visitors added two further tries themselves.

The Devon side led 38-7 at half-time, with winger Jack Bond notching a hat-trick. Centre Kyle Browne went one better over the 80 minutes with a pair of tries in each half. Brother Martin also got a first half try, with four conversions from Rob Avery-Wright adding to Chippenham’s demise.

The home side showed some resilience to get back to 43-21 down, but a try from hooker Dean Avery plus Browne’s fourth as well as Avery-Wright’s fifth conversion, completed the All Whites’ highest score of the season.

While Newton were winning 55-21 in Wiltshire, Old Centralians were doing the same at home to an understrength Brixham side, the final score 38-14.

These two results set up an end of season finale at Rackerhayes tomorrow which will decide who, out of Newton Abbot or Old Centralians, stay or go.

Three points – in favour of the visitors – separate the two clubs with Newton having to first, win, and then hope the bonus point equation works in their favour to keep them up.

If both clubs finish on identical points, Old Cents would survive on the strength of more games won.

What promises to be a fascinating contest gets under way at 2.30pm.
