TEENAGER Ashby Edmonds competed to great success at the Aquatics GB ‘Next Gen’ British Championships.

Held between July 19 and 25 at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, this is an event always jam-packed full of action.

Ashby, who is 15 years old and lives near Kingsteignton, secured a gold medal for 800 freestyle in his age group as well as winning bronze in the 400 free. His result in the latter set a new Devon record, the previous one having stood undefeated for nearly 19 years.

The youngster began his swimming journey at Kingsteignton Swimming and Lifesaving Club when he was nine and still represents Newton Abbot Swimming and Water Polo Club as a water polo player.

In January this year, he started at Mount Kelly and is now studying for his GCSEs there as well as being a member of their distance swimming squad. His 'home' club is Torquay Leander.
