A RECORD-BREAKING 32,000 people took part in the Adidas Manchester Marathon in the name of chasing personal bests and raising money for charity.

Runners completed a 26.2-mile route that passed through the city centre as well as towns including Altrincham, Trafford and Chorlton-cum-Hardy. The streets were lined with spectators, with more than 125,000 people showing up and offering their support.

Notable achievements included Helen Anthony's new club record for the FV45 marathon and Michael Border and Duncan and Kim Knight's first marathon.

Teignbridge Trotters’ Helen Anthony finished 1718th in 3:08:59, Duncan Knight in 3:38:57, Michael Border in 4:15:48, Robert Faulkner in 4:18:33, Allen Taylor in 4:18:56, Kim Knight in 4:23:32 and Sophie Thomson in 5:04:21.

Kim said, ‘We had a fantastic day and support along the route was amazing. The weather was kind and the million dollar question is: will we do another one?’

Michael said, ‘It was my first marathon. I completed it in four hours and 15 minutes, which I was delighted with as before I joined the Trotters last year I would not have thought I could run a marathon!’

Spectator Ryan Anthony, who travelled up to the event, commented: ‘It was well organised with the Event Village at Old Trafford cricket ground.

‘Thirty-two thousand started the event – I think they stated it was the third-largest field in European marathons. Well done, all.’
