The Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team in Ashburton displayed their commitment and exceptional skills during a busy weekend of search and rescue operations.
On Saturday, June 24, the Ashburton team received two critical callouts that put their expertise to the test. The first callout came at 16:45 when the Devon and Cornwall Police sought their assistance in locating a missing person in the Shipley Bridge area of southern Dartmoor. Responding swiftly, 22 volunteers and 2 Mountain Rescue Search Dogs were deployed to comb through the challenging terrain. At 18:30, the missing individual was found by the Police, and the team was stood down.
Later that evening, another incident saw the team called out once again. This time, they were requested to join a multi-agency search for a vulnerable 74-year-old female in the Sidmouth area. 11 volunteers and 2 Mountain Rescue Search Dogs tirelessly searched the high probability areas. As the night wore on, the team's efforts yielded important progress. By 04:00, they decided to stand down for the night, with North Dartmoor Search and Rescue taking over the search operations on Sunday.
