ABBOTSKERSWELL won for the first time in four C Division West starts when they defeated Cornwood 2nd XI by five wickets.

Noah Carlisle (44) and Jason Hall (50) rescued the Wood from a wobbly 77 and pushed them towards 207 for nine.

Every Abbotskerswell bowler took a wicket: Jay Hussain, Max Yates and Harrison Vickery had two.

Skipper Toby Codd (34) and Brayden Notman (50) got Abbots up to 125 for four. Tom Heath (28) and Charlie Hill (46) effectively finished the task.

Left-arm spinner Ethan Carlisle (2-27) gave Abbots’ batters something to think about.

Meanwhile, Ipplepen cruised to a seven-wicket win over South Devon in a predictable outcome to the top-against-bottom match.

South Devon, without a win all season, were bowled out for 107 with Alan Berchams’ 18 as good as it got.

Jamie Ingham had three South Devon wickets for 11 runs and there were two each for Joe Parker, George Tapley and Noah Rider against one of his previous clubs.

Ipplepen, who have won every game they have started this season, needed just 12 overs to knock-off the runs.

Runs from Noah Sutton (45), Sam Wakeham (21) and Ingram (34) made the chase a doddle.

Pens are 40 points ahead of Kingsbridge at the top of a division with just one promotion place. Two go down and South Devon, already 38 points adrift, are resigned to being one of them.

Onto the B Division and Muhammad Basit helped himself to an unbeaten century for Barton in their eight-wicket win over table-proppers Ashburton.

Ashburton made a respectable 212 for nine in 50 overs, in which opener Ashley Berry played a leading role with 75. Matt Churchill (37) and Lloyd White (30) added runs lower down.

Barton’s young seamer Riley Calland nipped out four Ashes’ batters for 28 runs and there were two wickets for spinner Basit.

Basit went in second wicket down following the departure of Fin Last and was still there 161 runs later on 113 not out. He hit 20 fours. Not out at the other end on 69 was Devanshu Sinha.

Four wins on the trot have taken Barton up to fourth in the table, just 12 points light of the second promotion place.

Ashburton are 24 points adrift at the bottom.

Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey 2nd XI tumbled to a 98-run defeat at Seaton that leaves them in the bottom two for another week.

The only consolation for skipper Dan Green is that Braunton and Clyst St George, the two teams directly above them, both lost as well.

A consistent effort from Seaton’s batters, led by Jack Dormer with a patient 58, took them to an impressive 271 for nine. He shared a stand of 74 with Damian Baxter (37). Ben Morgan (41) and Sam Goodier (31) kept the runs comi.ng as the ball went soft.

Bovey left armer Sam Veal (3-46) combined wicket-taking and economy effectively.

A solid start took Bovey to 87 for one – Sam Harvey (21), Jamie Bishop (31), Ryan Jones (21) responsible – but a mini stumble to 88 for four delayed progress.

At 116 for seven after a battering from Kai Croft (5-45) an early finish loomed, but a belligerent 42 by Green delayed the inevitable. He clubbed seven fours and two sixes from 17 balls faced.

Ben Fisher tidied up the loose ends with two for 19 as Bovey were dismissed for 173.
