BOVEY Tracey AFC 1st XI “gave a solid account of [themselves] against a very experienced side” in the eyes of manager Ben Gerring.

The Moorlanders’ trip to face Western League title favourites Portishead Town was one of just three games to survive the storms in their division on Saturday, October 24.

This is a Posset team who have scored five or more goals on seven occasions already this season and they’d kept clean sheets in seven of their eight games going into the Bovey clash.

They made that eight out of nine by defeating Gerring’s side 3-0 but it “wasn’t disappointing afternoon at all.”

Writing on social media, he continued, the “first and third goal [were] avoidable for me but to a man, we [gave] it a good go and that’s all I asked.”

Given the circumstances surrounding Portishead, that saw them finish second at step four last term with 95 points, only to be relegated due to off-the-field issues, there is no shame in being beaten by them whatsoever.

Owen Humphries and Kyle Egan were on target for the hosts in the first half at Bristol Road and Egan added another after the break to secure the three points.

Portishead may be fourth at the time of writing but they have minimum four games in hand on the trio above them and are eight points behind current leaders Clevedon Town. This was their 23rd game in all competitions and they’ve lost just twice to date/ only once in the league.

As previously mentioned, two other games went ahead on Saturday and one involved table-toppers Clevedon.

This was always going to be a fascinating fixture as they welcomed St Blazey to the North Somerset Community Stadium for a battle of two in-form sides.

Ben Griffith and Nicholas McCootie scored for the home side either side of a Blazey goal from Cam Hutchison. This 2-1 victory brings Blazey a first defeat of the campaign and leaves Clevedon as the solitary unbeaten team.

Elsewhere, Connor Marshall’s Tavistock AFC returned home from Wells City empty-handed, shipping a goal in either half and what a result this is for Wells who jump up three spots as a result.

Buckland Athletic were supposed to host Sidmouth Town at Homers Heath but the storm won that battle. Newquay AFC vs Street FC, Saltash United vs Brislington FC and Shepton Mallet vs Ivybridge Town also fell foul of the weather conditions.

Meanwhile, at step six, five games went ahead in the South West Peninsula League Premier East.

Newton Abbot Spurs’ home clash with Ilminster Town was rained off, as was Elburton Villa vs Bridport FC, whilst Teignmouth AFC were without a fixture.

On the Friday night, Crediton United defeat Axminster Town by two goals to nil.

Two former Spurs players starred for Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police- Saul Vanes providing two assists and Jacob Osborne coming off the bench to find the net for the Bees as they won 3-1 at Exeter Uni.

Ilfracombe Town edged out Middlezoy Rovers, Torrington AFC scored six against Bishops Lydeard and Cullompton Rangers put a whopping 14 (fourteen) goals past rock-bottom Okehampton Argyle.

This weekend, all being well, Bovey and Buckland are in FA Vase action. The Moorlanders host Brixham AFC for a Devon derby whereas the Bucks travel to the Isle of Wight to face Cowes Sports FC.

Spurs could really do with a win at The Rec against Argyle and the same goes for Teignmouth who visit Bishops Lydeard.

Both have midweek games first though, travelling to Stoke Gabriel and Honiton Town respectively.
