WESTERN COUNTIES WEST

Newton Abbot RFC 33 Truro 22

NEWTON Abbot RFC moved on from their Western Counties drubbing at Wiveliscombe by defeating Truro RFC 33-22 at Rackerhayes on Saturday, November 29.

The All Whites were only behind briefly in the match and by half time were 12-5 ahead.

Truro never got closer than nine points behind in the second half as Newton ran in three more tries.

Lloyd Radford led the way for Newton with two tries. Jake Monnington, veteran Ian Milton and scrum-half Owen McLeod bagged one each. Monnington was four out of five from the tee.

To make their afternoon at Rackerhayes all the more sweet, there were a trio of debutants wearing white, two of whom are products of the colts. George Greenwood started on the wing at number 14 and Ben Lang came on as a substitute, as did another new face, Harry Wakeley.

Newton Abbot's five-point haul moves them up to seventh in the 12-team table. They are ahead of Kingsbridge on points difference whilst Plymstock Oaks, Penryn, Truro and Saltash are the quartet bringing up the rear.

At the other end of the table, Wiveliscombe lead the way with seven wins from eight, ahead of St Ives, Paignton and Redruth IIs, all three of whom are on 26 points.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Kingsbridge enjoyed a home win over Plymstock Oaks, Redruth won by a single point at Penryn, Wiveliscombe beat Paignton 36-19 and there were away victories for Barnstaple IIs and Torquay, against Saltash and St Ives respectively.

Next on the agenda for Newton Abbot RFC is a derby date with Paignton at Queen's Park on Saturday, December 6.
